Ultrasound Lower Extemities (Knees)
Ultrasound can be useful to visualise superficial soft tissue structures surrounding the knee.
Service Description
Ultrasound can be useful to visualise superficial soft tissue structures surrounding the knee. One great advantage it has over other imaging modalities is its dynamic use. Observing joint surfaces moving and correlating sonographic findings with patient symptoms can be very helpful. Remember, ultrasound cannot see deep to bone, so ultrasound is not the imaging modality of choice for any intra-articular pathology. Common structures visualised around the knee include: Patella and quadriceps tendons Several knee bursae Muscle and tendinous structures anterior and posterior to the joint Joint lines and capsular recesses
